Common Names: Dwarf Spotted Danio
Scientific Name: Danio nigrofasciatus
Availability: At one time a common fish, but not widely available throughout the aquarium hobby today.
Origin: Central parts of Myanmar in the divisions of Yango and Bago as well as Mon State.
Overview: Another of my favorite Danios. They are very peaceful and shy. A group of 10 to 15 is fantastic looking in a well planted tank with a dark substrate. Best when kept in larger groups of 8+ fish.
Compatiblity: Non-aggressive, they should not not be kept with any larger aggressive fish.
Feeding: Not a picky eater, they will eat almost anything offered. Like most of the other danios, they are surface feeders.
Sexing: The females are usually larger and more full bodied. The males are slightly smaller and slimmer.
Breeding: A very easy Danio to breed, as with other danios, the major problem is to prevent the adults from eating the eggs or the fry. |
