Danio and Davario and Microrasbora, Oh My! |
The family of fish from the group known as danionins has two main genera, Danio and Devario; and the lesser populated genera Sundadanio, Danionella and Microrasbora.
Many of these fish have been around since the beginning of the aquarium hobby. With all the points which make an ideal aquarium occupant, they are without a doubt, one of the most permanently popular of aquarium fish.
In the past several years, there has been an explosion of new species of danios coming from India, Myanmar and Vietnam. So many in fact, that some haven't even been properly named. With the number of new danios nowadays, danio keeping is quickly becoming as large a hobby as L number keeping or C number keeping.
I know I've caught danio fever! After 30+ years of keeping larger fish, mostly cichlids, it was time for a change. I'm currently on a mission to collect, and hopfully make available to other hobbists, as many different varieties of these fish as I can.
I'm currently working with...
